Services

Fire Supression
The York Fire Department operates with an assortment of firefighting apparatus. The fleet consists of 4 Pumpers (Including a Pumper/Rescue), 2 Water Tankers, 1 Snorkle Truck, 1 Brush Truck, 1 Water Rescue Boat and The S.M.A.R.T. (Southern Maine Advanced Rehabilitation Team) Truck. Our fully trained full-time personnel and volunteer firefighters are ready to handle a wide variety of fire related calls. The Pumpers are equiped with 1000 gallons of water and an assortment of firefighting equipment, including a thermal imaging camera that allows firefighters to see heat in a smoke filled room, a gas meter that will detect toxic gasses like Carbon Monoxide, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus with an integrated safety system for firefighters in distress, as well as many other tools.

For the areas outside of the hydranted sections of town, the York Fire Department has two tanker trucks that hold 1500 gallons and 2500 gallons of water. These trucks are also used for wildland firefighting as well. Also used in wildland firefighting is our small brush truck, which holds 300 gallons of water and a large assortment of hand tools.

Emergency Medical Services
The York Fire Department is staffed with full-time and volunteer Firefighter/EMT's that are trained at the Basic Level. These firefighters work with York Ambulance in all emergency medical calls in the York Village Fire District. The four pumpers are stocked with an assortment of medical gear to assist in stabilizing a patient.

Vehicle Extrication and Rescue
Squad 1, York Fire Departments pumper/rescue, carries an assortment of extrication and rescue tools. Included is the Jaws of Life, hydrolic rams, a reciprocating saw and a winch. With these tools we can extricate a patient who is trapped in vehicle. In the case where a person is pinned under a heavy object, Engine 4 is equiped with a set of Air Bags that will lift any large vehicle high enough to quickly remove a patient. Also located on Engine 4 is a second set of Jaws.

Water Rescue
York Fire Department has a fully trained team of rescue swimmers that protect York Harbor and the areas of ocean off the Coast of York and York Beach. Boat 1 is docked at Town Dock 2 in the summer months and is ready to go at a moments notice.

Hazardous Materials and Decontamination
Located in a large trailer is our Decontamination tent. With this tent with can safetly deconaminate a patient and firefighter(s) who has been exposed to a hazardous substance. A large number of our firefighters are fully trained in Haz-Mat and Decon. operations.

Southern Maine Advanced Rehabilitation Team
The Southern Maine Advanced Rehabilitation Team is a section of the York Fire Department that supplies support services at long term incidents and events. The team uses a state of the art truck called The S.M.A.R.T. Truck. This truck has an assortment of unique capabilities such as a full kitchen, a cascade system for filling SCBA, a light tower, generator, and an insulated command post/interview room. This truck was paid for by grant money and donations.
