Members get a jump on annual fund raising flyer

The York Village Fire Department's largest fundraiser every year is our annual flyer. The flyer is a mailer sent to every property owner in the York Village fire district (York Village and York Harbor zip codes) The flyer contains important details about what the fire department has been doing over the previous year and always details a recent large purchase of fire equipment made with your donations. We are also looking to solicit potential new members with the dissemination of the flyer. The year 2011-2012 was no different we purchased several pieces of fire equipment from the donations recieved last year. The donations help to supplement the YFD's municipal budget which is funded by your tax dollars. Tuesday night the members worked dilligently for several hours to prepare the flyers for delivery to the York Harbor and York Village post offices to be distributed. This year the YFD is early with our fundraising flyers, usually the annual event coincides with "Firemen's Field Day" which is held in August.
What did the YFD purchase this year with your donations???? You'll just have to wait and see!!!!!!!!...

York Village responds mutual aid to Kittery

approximately 0430 hrs Kittery was toned for a barn fire on Charles Hill Rd. On the arrival of 27-C-1 (Chief O'Brien) He advised that he had a fully involved barn with exposure to the house. He immediately requested a second alarm for his non-hydrant district. York Village toned out for Engine 4 and Tank 4 to respond. Kittery companies arrived to find the barn on the ground. Speculation is that a delayed alarm contributed to the advanced fire spread. While enroute, Engine 4 and Portsmouth, NH Engine 1 were cancelled by command. He requested that York Tank 4, Eliot Tank 1, South Berwick Tank 1, Greenland, NH Tank 1 and Kittery Point Tank 6 continue to the scene as water supply was an issue on the narrow dead-end dirt road. Chief Balentine
(C-1) and Captain Balentine ( K-4) responded to assist Tank 4 with the water shuttle to supply the overhaul operation.

Thanks to Shawn St. Hilaire for the use of his photographs!!!!...

A tribute to Auxiliary Member Barbara Dinsmore

We are all deeply saddened by the loss of York Fire Department Auxiliary member Barbara Dinsmore. Barbara was the wife of FF Donald "Sonny" Dinsmore. Barbara was very active with the York Fire Department's Auxiliary unit. The Auxiliary assists the firefighting effort by providing food and drink at the firehouse and on fire scenes. The Auxiliary's duties do not end there; however. They staff the SMART truck whose primary function is to run the rehab sector at fire scenes providing, lighting, breathing air for SCBA's and friendly banter. The Auxiliary members are always there to lend a helping hand no matter what the mission involved. Barbara truly exemplified this role. She was part of the team and always proud to be part of the team no matter how small the job was.
The York Fire Department family is standing by FF "Sonny" Dinsmore and the Dinsmore family during this difficult time. We will miss your friendly smile and warm presence around the YFD!!!!...
