| Your memories of Dave and your comments: |
This is my 2nd messsage on here since Daves death. It will be my last. I was at Daves funeral on Wednesday afternoon. I had the distinct honor to walk with 2 of Daves friends to the cemetary, Rick Plummer, the Chief in Biddeford and Andy Lucier, the Chief in Milton, NH. Very obvious to all of us "out of towners", was the professionalism and degree of respect shown to Dave & his family by Chief Chris Ballentine and the members of the York Fire Dept. It was wonderful to see the respect shown by the Beach companies and mutual aid units as well. Another thing I personally noticed and commented to others is that, just as Dave Hilton would have loved, is the "old home day roundup" of firefighters from the whole region, current and past, in honoring yet another one of our fallen brothers. Isn't it unfortunate that the only time we put on our uniforms, gather and shake hands with those we haven't seen in years, is at the funerals of our fallen members ? For you younger folks, you'll soon realize this fact. Take the time to say hi to your fellow brothers & sisters, like Dave always made time to, whether at mutual aid incidents, training events or wherever. As Daves death has illustrated to us all, you never know and life is too short. Lastly, I have heard may euligies of firefighters at too many funerals in my 27 years in this business. In my opinion, Chief Ricky Plummer, delivered the best I've ever heard to a fellow firefighter. He did so from his heart as his friend and we were all moved by his remarks. Chief Lucier from Milton, as well as so many others were very saddened by Daves loss, who was also one of his best friends. Again, take the time to help each other and be safe. To Daves family, you must know, we'll always be there for you with a tear in our eye, like you. |
